Letter From the Editor

Welcome!

Hi everyone and welcome to the first edition of The Espresso, the worlds first newspaper for creative thinkers.  We promise to scour the world to find what's news in thinking - tips, tools and stimulants that will help you look at your world differently.  This newspaper is not for everyone.  Its for those people who like to push the boundries, hate status quo, like to challenge the norm and get restless if they're not able to challenge the normal paradigms of traditional thinking.

Why is it necessary?  The black and white picture above is a true picture from "Innovation Australia" - the government body that oversees innovation in our country.  Have a good look at this photo and tell me that you believe these people have the ability to push innovation through for business and our community, and be totally in touch with what's changing around the thinking for brand, people, education, social media and culture. This is why we have a need for a newspaper like this.

We encourage your contributions.  We encourage you to challenge our thinking and we offer you the opportunity to contribute your own stories, tips and insights to help the rest of the world think differently.  Feel free to take any piece of information and share it, and if there is someone you know who likes to challenge thinking and you think could benefit from this newspaper, then please feel free to forward it on to them.  They're only one click away from having The Espresso delivered to them every Wednesday for free.

Technology

Amazing Inauguration Website

The website below is just an amazing example of where technology is going.  It makes you appreciate how bland and plain many websites are when technology and technological advancements are moving so quickly.  It blows your mind to think what is next.  Make sure you click on the link and see what is possible.

Lifestyle

Five Fingers

Great marketers are thinking differently about brand.  Companies such as Vibram are winning market share by creating new categories not just new brands.  When you create a new category, you own the category and you play by different rules.  Aren't you intrigued to try a pair of these shoes?

Entertainment

Cross the Road Carefully

If there is ever a guy that can make you see things differently its Edgar Mueller.  Isn't it amazing what can be done with a piece of chalk and some pavement!

Kids

What a Classroom!

It has been said that children enter school as question marks and leave as exclamation marks.  I believe that often teachers, the curriculum and the environment can be responsible for stealing curiosity from children.  Thankfully, some schools are creating learning environments that are stimulating and creative and are designed to enhance a child's curiosity.   Wouldn't it be great to learn in an environment like this.

People

Andrew ("Max") Walker Marketing Director Pacific Beverages

1.  Where do you get your best ideas?  Between deep sleep and waking up.  I can process ideas with more clarity at that time, rather than during a busy work day.                       2.  What have you fallen in love with recently?  Loud music!  I recently "inherited" an amazing amplifier and speakers and love blowing the doors off my apartment.  3.  Your biggest tip for time efficiency?  I haven't figured this out yet!!  I think you should focus on the things you know are important and not be afraid to let the smaller balls drop.                                               4.  How do you recharge your Mojo when flat?  Switch off the phone, get out of town, eat well, exercise, swim in the ocean and sleep like a hibernating bear.

Book Review

Inside Steve's Brain                            By Leander Kahney

There is no question in my mind that one of the most innovative and cutting edge organizations in the world right now is Apple Inc, and Steve Jobs is the man behind it's success.  This book, Inside Steve's Brain by Leander Kahney explores business lessons from Steve Jobs, the man who is credited with saving Apple in the late 1990's and creating the success story it is today.  Learn how he operates, launches killer products, attracts fanatically loyal customers and manages some of the worlds most powerful brands.  A great read!
